Fashion and clothing stores have a quirk that brings a lot of platforms to their knees: one product exists in ten sizes and five colours, which is 50 combinations, each with its own stock and possibly its own photograph. PrestaShop was built for exactly this.
Variants and attributes without the chaos
Size, colour and material are attributes in PrestaShop, and the system generates the combinations from them. Each combination can have its own stock, price and SKU. The buyer picks a size and a colour on the product page, and stock updates as they do. The alternative — fifty separate products that happen to share a name — is how catalogues become unmanageable.
Filters that lead to a purchase
In fashion, fast navigation is everything. Filtering by size, colour, brand and price shortens the path to the product and lifts conversion. The thing to watch is that filters stay fast on a large catalogue, which takes real speed work rather than good intentions.
Returns and size guides
Fashion has a high return rate, and in Europe the 14-day right of withdrawal means you will get returns whatever you do. Clear size guides, good photographs and honest descriptions of the material reduce them. This is not just content. It is money that does not go out on return postage.
Speed means fewer abandoned baskets
Fashion buyers browse on a phone, often on a patchy connection, often for a few minutes at a time. A slow store means abandoned baskets. Product images have to be beautiful and light at the same time — WebP, lazy loading, right dimensions — and pages have to load in seconds, not tens of seconds.
