PrestaShop for food and local produce: delivery and the rules

Perishable goods, delivery zones and time windows, and the allergen information EU law wants a customer to see before they buy.

Selling food, drink and local produce online has its own constraints: perishable goods, fast delivery, legal labelling and often a limited delivery area. PrestaShop is flexible enough to handle all four.

Delivery to a limited area

Fresh produce often goes only to certain towns or postcodes, sometimes only on particular days. In PrestaShop you set delivery zones, rules and time windows, so you never promise a customer something the van cannot do. Every promise the checkout makes is a promise somebody has to keep on a Thursday morning.

Labels, ingredients and allergens

For food, EU law requires clear information on composition, allergens and origin — and for distance selling, most of it has to be available before the customer buys, not just on the packaging when it arrives. Custom product fields let you show that clearly, which builds trust and protects you from complaints.

Quantities, packaging, weight

Selling by weight, by pack or by unit takes a considered product structure. A catalogue set up properly makes the choice easy for the customer and cuts down on ordering mistakes — and mistakes are expensive when the goods spoil.

Speed and trust

Local customers come back if buying is simple and quick. A fast, clear store with honest delivery terms is the difference between a one-off buyer and a regular one. That is where speed work pays for itself twice over.
